Style Guide Briana

When it comes to style, I find my inspirations all around me. A distinctive style can grow and change over time, but I think we can all agree, some women are just born with it. My style guide series has included a range of ages and aesthetics. I thought it would be fun to mix it up and get some stylish inspiration from one of my favorite young style guides, Briana, a very hip 20 something who happens to drive a Ninja around town. She has a passion for traveling the world (Vietnam is a fav), a gift for teaching (pre-schoolers are her favorite) and is currently a magazine editor/writer  for Upgraded Living magazine in her hometown of Chico. Along with being wicked smart and gorgeous, she is one of the funniest people I know. Briana just so happens to be my step-daughter and I knew she would dish!

Favorite Beauty Products
~Skincare: Face: St. Ives Apricot Scrub is a treasure hidden on the bottom shelf. I mix it with any face wash for exfoliation, or use it by itself on my chest and back. It smells delicious and is soothing and smoothing.
Body: Homemade Sugar Scrub is a delicious way to end a relaxing shower. Sugar, Baby Oil or Olive Oil, a few drops of essential oil, and some aloe vera gel is the perfect recipe for a silky glow.
~ Lips: I love the big, fat Cocoa Butter Chapstick that looks like a glue stick. It lasts forever, tastes good and adds the perfect amount of moisture. It’s always my base coat before lip gloss to lock in moisture and make the gloss go on smooth like buttah!
~Mascara: I try and try other brands, but nothing is as fabulous as the good ol’ neon pink and green tube of Maybelline Great Lash mascara. It’s a classic and it turns my blinkers on.
~Base/primer: Bare Escentuals has light-weight mineral powder foundations that are gentle on the skin, and easy on the eyes ;) For more coverage and less money, I like Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse foundation. Somehow they have my exact color and it blends in without looking oily or too thick.
~Body lotion: In-shower lotion by Olay, is a great addition to a beauty routine. I especially love it after I shave. Sometimes I’m in a hurry when I get out of the shower and I just want to get ready and go! Moisturizing in the shower is so quick and easy and it locks the moisture in since pores are open with the steam and hot water. Plus when I see the water beading off my smooth legs like little pearls, I have a mermaid moment!
~Scents: Ferragamo “F” for Fascinating and Coach “Summer Edition” are sophisticated and delicious. Fresh and sexy for a working girl by day and a flirt by night ;)
~Hair Products~ Blonds may have more fun, but if I lightened my hair, it would probably just bring out my mustache! Seriously though, a girl who rocks dark locks knows that shine is the way to be noticed. Redken Extreme is a great line for shine, and it smells great too.

My hot tip~ Even a little workout will give you endorphins to make you glow. Bollywood dancing is a great at-home workout (and laughing at yourself will help burn calories as well). Steam room is my other trick for dull skin and dull moods. There are tons of health benefits, and it’s a post-workout treat that motivates me to get to the gym.
(My beautiful step-daughters~Lauren, Annika and Briana)

Fashionable Favorites
Fashion icon: I can’t help but love Kourtney Kardashian. She’s ethnic looking, and the shortest in the family, just like me! We vertically challenged girls know there are things we just can’t get away with wearing, but there’s a special corner in the closet that we get to have all to ourselves! Kourtney has great taste and makes it all look good.

Favorite designers: I love beachy designs and bright colors and prints. Sooo happy that these trends are part of the Spring 2012 wearable runway designs. If I could afford Versace’s 2012 resort line, I’d buy every piece. I heart heart heart Mondo Guerra from Project Runway and he will have a line available at Neiman Marcus soon. His eye for pattern and color mixing makes me hungry for fashion and I can’t wait to get some of his goods.

If I could I’d play … Nicki Minaj…..for a day, because….. although she isn’t the most mainstream fashion icon, I love her. Her insane wigs, girly dresses and awesome boots all make me a little jealous! I especially love the outfit she wore on the Ellen show and her kick-ass blue cowboy boots. Yes Please!
My hot tip~ Wear clothes that make you feel like you look good. Even on casual days. And when it comes to heels, here are some reasons why NOT to wear them: you’re tall, you’re taller than your man, nobody else is wearing them, it’s cold, they’re too fancy, blah blah blahhhhh.... I say WHO CARES?? Heels are sexy! They make your legs, butt, posture and outfit look hot. From kitten to stiletto, if you feel like strutting around a few inches above average, don’t let anything stand in your way!

My first.......Oh la la!!

Last evening, at the very stylish Nantucket Home in Chico, I met my first blogger, in person. Corey Amaro of the very popular 'Tongue in Cheek' blog was an absolute delight. She grew up with a wonderful life in Willows but has lived in France ever since she fell in love with a handsome Frenchman....isn't that really the fantasy of all of us? What a lovely life they have created and it was wonderful to hear the stories. Nantucket home transformed their space into a 'get away to Provence' kind of evening. The delicious bites-quiches and cheeses....so French. The wine and the macaroons....the sunflowers, lavender and rosemary were everywhere....Don't even get me started on the Deux Chevaux in the entryway filled with flowers. It was a magical, transportive kind of evening. Corey, and her French husband were wonderful. It was such a treat to meet them, right here in Chico. In her lovely blog, "Tongue in Cheek" Corey beautifully describes our evening. Take a peek.

How do you say 'rock star' in French. Oui! Way to go Corey.
Thanks Nicole for the hot tip!

Travel on my mind....

Source: stylemindchic.blogspot.com via Heather on Pinterest

There is much to look forward to this week. Wednesday night, at Nantucket Home, the very stylish home furnishings store in Chico, there will be a special event. "Tongue in Cheek" blogger, Corey Amaro, local girl who now lives in Provence, will be making an appearance. Her blog is fun and fresh with a French twist. As a new lifestyle blogger and lover of all things French, I am excited to meet Corey. I will certainly have more to share on this event later in the week.

Speaking of travel, my darling friend, Lily, is visiting Paris this week..... Ohhh la la! My Le Cafe' photo above (taken in July) is dedicated to her. For a little more on Paris check out my  Getaway Guide: Paris. Husband and I have our own plans for some travel so I'll be gearing up for another Getaway Guide as we take bite out of The Big Apple. If you have NYC favs please share!

My dressing table today....what's on yours??

Source: parisapartment.wordpress.com via Heather on Pinterest

There is something so intriguing to me about a woman's dressing table....it's distinctive and so very personal for every woman. Perhaps it's the hand-selected mementos, photographs, the trinkets, the jewels that intrigue-each with a history. Maybe it's her makeup~the eyeshadows, the lipsticks and perfumes that speak to personal style. As I well know, the table can also get to be a tangle pretty quickly. In looking to do some rearranging of my own dressing table today, I took a peek at Pinterest for some style inspirations. I found plenty of eye candy and ended up designing several dressing table styles to suit my moods.

I love the opulence of the gold and jewels combined with the pop of pink from the bloom. Vintage perfume bottles are always chic.

In this Anders Gramer photograph I love sheen in the wall covering and the sexy lines of the dressing table.

The turquoise blue behind this dressing table makes it a french standout.

Love the bold mix of color and the whimsy of this inspiration.

This vintage inspired version feels ultra feminine with the pale pinks and blues.

This fresh design by Massucco Warner Miller shines with the gorgeous Venetian mirror

This is my first version of 'my dressing table today' inspired by my love of mixed metals.  I can't get enough of the interplay between silver, graphite and gold these days whether it be in decor or fashion.  A few of my favorite things help create this mood. My vintage dressing table, purchased here in Chico from our favorite Eighth and Main Antiques (we had a boutique "Belle Vie Chic" here several years back).  The vintage embellished vase is a gift from my mother, Jeri, from her collection.  My Steve Madden iPad case (gold and graphite-couldn't resist!). The chevron clutch was a gift from my husband-love it. The bowl, a gift from Lily, has an ikat feel (she always finds the perfect gifts!). The jewelry~ gifts from my husband (the sparkling bracelet from J. Crew and the gold hoops from my sista, Dorie-love! The gold beads are vintage and were Margies, my mother-in-law). I rounded it out with Kenneth Cole and D.G. Perfume and my Dior makeup palette purchased in Paris-Oh la la. Finally, my favorite photo of us, on our 10th Anniversary, in San Francisco (He's actually my favorite thing!).

Today's 'dressing table' is mixed metals but I also had fun playing today with different moods which I will share soon.

Stylish reader, It makes me wonder-what's on your dressing table today?

Spring Trends~go nude (or make me blush)!

I sparked your interest there, didn't I?  Pops of color are everywhere this season and, I must admit, I'm crazy about the bold and springy hues in my home and fashion. Though I am flirting with color,  I will always be loyal to the subtle glow of nude tones..... here are few of my favorites I'm eyeing today.

 Gucci

Love the shape and color of these Gucci shades.

Robert Rodriquez
I'm a big fan of Robert Rodriquez. This silk number is gorgeous and the over the shoulder style is effortlessly chic.
 Blush lace dress
Lace is a hot trend and this is a pretty, feminine style from Jax. I think a v-neck detail is always flattering.

Halston Heritage Stilettos
There are no words.....I love a fab stiletto~ I'm not gonna lie. This fits the bill with the subtle texture and hardware detail. A little sparkle and a little edge make these the perfect combo. These would be 'curb' shoes (drop me off and pick me up-at the curb- for dinner that is) .

Trina Turk 2 Tier Gold Hoop Earrings
Trina Turk Earrings

The always chic Trina Turk. These are a fresh take on the gold hoop Palm Springs style.

Tory Burch
This shimmery number can be used as a small clutch or a wallet. Love the versatility.

Dior Lips
I found this shade in Paris last summer.  It's Dior Addict High Shine Lipstick in Bronze Bombshell (of course!). If you click the link the shade looks more like a the true bronze it really is.

{All products can be found on Amazon by clicking on the product links (words). I've also added them to my "Stylish Favs" box to the right}

                       Happy weekend from StyleMindChic!

Stripe it rich!

I'm home, feeling a little under the weather, but lucky that I have a mug of green tea, Pinterest and my favorite blog reads to keep me company today. The always chic black and white stripes are catching my eye lately. This sharply defined, chic looking palette is absolutely every where.....take a peek!

Well hello Spring!

Hello Spring! Though it's been a mild winter here, I've missed you.  Hearing your name gets me to thinking~ bright spring flowers, brilliant sunshine and trees in bloom everywhere. A picnic may be in order soon to celebrate.  Welcome Back......
